Sleeping Gas – I Guess This is a Start: Tally Ho 2011 Singles Project Family Entertainment System Family Entertainment System (or FES) is the solo project of Ocelots guitarist Chris Hargrow and we’re super excited to present the Forgotten Veteran Levels EP as April’s installment of the Singles Project. With his band mates, Greg and Paul, backing him on bass and drums respectively, this threesome gets an extra boost in the form of a Ds “game” called Electroplankton, which nicely compliments this energy infused indie rock with a bit of playful nostalgia. Download it below and set the iPod for repeat.
Three tracks recorded in 2009 by Twelve Rangers Tracking trickster Matt Perkins. We're actually amazed he was able to record three tracks that weren't completely divergent in style, quality, or sound. What we've got here is some lonely crooning minimalism. It's msspppp's classic blues punk turned towards Suicide via hearing Radiohead and Nina Simone in his sleep beyond the herculean jerk of the Ex. Improv structureless noise rock that's as bearded with soul as a Whiskerino dedicated to Nico. It's grown out beyond the itching phase but way past acceptable. It's a dirty dirge dripping with soup and the longing for a human touch. Atonal harmonies with oneself. This solo lion sleeps tonight. What happens to the lone hipster as he fades into the next stage? "Put down the elephant". The elephant in the room is now welcome. The Flurries The Flurries provide the second installment of our 2011 singles project with Whenever You Joke Inside the Slo-Dream. While often grappling at different “pop” styles, on this go around they’ve slowed things down considerably and let the waves wash freely. Two points for anyone who gets the “inside joke” and an additional ten if you can sing along to the closing track, a cover of Minor Threat’s self-titled classic. Brit Albion Brit says he enjoyed the spontaneity of writing and recording these songs. They came during a couple days of quick creativity while awaiting the birth of his daughter, for whom the first song is written and dedicated. He also disclaims that this is proof of why he rarely attempts a falsetto vocal. We don’t know what he’s talking about though…break some glass, buddy.
